This Privacy Policy explains how BetterSelf.fitness (“we,” “us,” or “our”)
collects, uses, and discloses information about you when you use our mobile
application (the “App”). By using the App, you consent to the processing of your
information as described in this policy.
We collect information to provide, improve, and personalize our services. This
includes:
- Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your email
address and may ask for a name or username.
- Health and Fitness Data: We collect the health and fitness data you input,
such as exercise logs, physical measurements (e.g., weight, height), sleep
schedules, and dietary information.
- User Preferences: We store your settings and preferences to customize your
experience.
- AI Chat Messages and Attachments: When you use our AI Assistant feature, we
collect the text messages you send and any images you attach (e.g., photos of
meals). Attached images are uploaded to our cloud storage for processing by the
AI service.
2. Health Connect Data (BetterSelf.fitness)
Our App integrates with Health Connect by Android™ to provide a unified fitness experience. We access the following data types to power our features:
- Total Calories Burned & Nutrition: Used to display your daily energy balance and macro-nutrient tracking on the dashboard.
- Weight & Body Fat: Used to visualize your body composition trends over time.
- Sleep: Used to calculate your recovery score and suggest workout intensities.
Important Privacy Standards:
- Local Storage: All data received from Health Connect is stored locally on your device. We do not sync, back up, or permanently store this health data on our servers.
- AI Processing Disclosure: When you use our AI Assistant, data from your device — which may include entries derived from Health Connect (such as nutrition and calorie data) — is sent to our third-party AI service provider for the sole purpose of generating personalized responses within your current chat session. This data is used only to process your request and is not permanently retained by the AI service.
- Limited Use Disclosure: Our use of information received from Health Connect will adhere to the Health Connect Permissions Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
- No Data Selling: We will never sell your Health Connect data to third parties, including data brokers or advertisers.
3. Cloud Data Synchronization
For users with an active account, the App may synchronize your user-entered
fitness and health data (such as food logs, exercise data, body measurements,
and preferences) between your device and our cloud servers to enable backup and
core functionality.
Note: Health Connect data is not included in cloud synchronization for
free-tier users. Only data you manually enter or that is created through the AI
Assistant is synced to our servers.
4. Credits and Purchase Data
When you purchase credits or subscriptions through the App, we collect and store:
- Credit balance and transaction history (purchases, usage, bonuses)
- Subscription status and entitlement information
- Purchase metadata provided by our payment processor, including
product identifiers and purchase timestamps
- Usage Data: We may collect information about how you use the App, such as
the features you use and the time spent on the App.
- Device Information: We may collect information about your mobile device,
including the device model, operating system version, and unique device
identifiers, to ensure compatibility and troubleshoot issues.
We use the collected information for the following purposes:
- App Functionality: To create and manage your account, track your fitness
progress, and provide the core features of the App.
- AI Assistant: To provide personalized fitness and nutrition responses
through our AI-powered chat feature. Your profile data, food/calorie context,
and chat messages are sent to our AI service to generate relevant responses.
- Data Synchronization: To sync your fitness data across sessions and enable
cloud backup of your entries.
- Personalization: To tailor the App experience to your preferences and
goals.
- Improvement: To analyze usage trends and improve the App’s performance and
design.
- Communication: To send you important updates, security alerts, and support
messages.
- Health Insights: To generate recovery scores and fitness trends using the
data synced from Health Connect.
- Credit Management: To track your credit balance and process credit
purchases and usage.
AI Assistant and Data Processing
Our AI Assistant feature uses third-party artificial intelligence services to
provide personalized fitness and nutrition guidance. When you use the AI
Assistant:
- Data Sent to AI: Your user profile information, fitness and nutrition
context, and your chat messages are sent to the AI service for processing.
- Image Processing: If you attach an image (e.g., a photo of a meal), the
image is uploaded to our cloud storage and sent to the AI service for analysis.
- AI-Generated Entries: The AI Assistant can create or update food log
entries on your behalf based on your conversations. These entries are stored in
your account like any other manually created entry.
- Session Data: Chat sessions are created on the AI service to maintain
conversation context. Chat messages are not permanently stored on our servers
after the session ends.
- Third-Party AI Provider: The AI service is powered by a third-party AI
provider. Your data is processed in accordance with their data processing
terms.
Data Sharing and Disclosure
We respect your privacy and do not sell your personal data. We may share your
information in the following limited circumstances:
- Service Providers: We engage trusted third-party service providers to
perform functions on our behalf. These include:
- Third-party AI service providers that host and power our AI Assistant
feature.
- Billing service providers for managing in-app purchases and
subscription billing.
- Cloud infrastructure providers for data hosting, authentication, and
storage.
These providers have access to personal information only as needed to perform
their functions and are obligated to maintain the confidentiality and security
of your data.
- Legal Requirements: We may disclose your information if required to do so
by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to comply
with legal obligations, protect our rights, or ensure the safety of our users.
- Health Data Restriction: Notwithstanding any other section of this policy,
we do not share Health Connect data with third parties for analytics or
advertising purposes. Health Connect-derived data may only be sent to our AI
service provider when you actively use the AI Assistant feature, solely for
the purpose of generating your personalized response.
Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as
needed to provide you with the App’s services. Specifically:
- Account and fitness data: Retained as long as your account is active.
- Credit and transaction history: Retained as long as your account is active
and as required for financial record-keeping.
- AI chat sessions: Chat session data is transient and is not permanently
stored after the session ends.
- Uploaded images: Images uploaded via the AI chat are stored in our cloud
storage and are retained as long as your account is active.
We will also retain and use your information as necessary to comply with our
legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
Data Security
We take reasonable measures to help protect information about you from loss,
theft, misuse, and unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction.
These measures include encrypted data transmission, secure authentication,
access controls to ensure users can only access their own data, and secure
communication with third-party services.
However, no internet or electronic storage system is completely secure, and we
cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your Rights and Choices
- Access and Update: You can access and update your profile information
directly within the App settings.
- Delete Account: You have the right to delete your account and associated
data. Please refer to our “Delete Account Instructions” or use the deletion
option provided within the App’s settings. Deleting your account will remove
your synced data, credit balance, and uploaded images from our servers.
- AI Feature: Use of the AI Assistant is optional. You may choose not to use
the AI chat feature, in which case no data will be sent to the AI service.
- Health Connect Permissions: You can revoke Health Connect permissions at
any time through your device’s Health Connect settings.
Children’s Privacy
Our App is not intended for individuals under the age of 13. We do not knowingly
collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we
have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take steps to
delete such information.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any
changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the
“Effective Date” at the top. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy
periodically for any changes.
